About GameLab Oostt
GameLab Oost is a non-profit game design lab in the eastern Netherlands. We combine education, research, and innovation with games, gamification, and simulation. Our focus: developing game formats that accelerate learning, influence behavior, and have an impact in the worlds of education, healthcare, culture, and sustainability.

We collaborate with schools, businesses, governments, and researchers, giving young talent the space to experiment, create, and build meaningful games. Our teams (vocational, higher professional, and university education) create new serious game prototypes every semester. You start with concepting and research, work in short sprints using SCRUM, and continuously test with real clients.

We have already developed dozens of prototypes, including for the Municipality of Hengelo, ZGT, the University of Twente, and various healthcare organizations. Everything we build is extensively tested and improved in collaboration with the customer.

What will you do?
As a Game Designer, you will contribute to projects in which serious games stimulate growth, collaboration, and social value. You will contribute to:
• Conceiving and developing prototypes and game concepts.
• Translating ideas into clear design documents.
• Collaborating with programmers, artists, and researchers in a SCRUM environment.
• Playtesting, iterating, and refining based on feedback.

Who are we looking for?
• You are in the final phase of your education.
• You are available from February 2026 to June 2026.
• You have basic knowledge of game design, mechanics, and documentation.
• You can work with Unity or Unreal Engine.
• Experience with Agile working methods or tools such as Trello/Jira is a plus.

Internship Programmer (Start February 2026)


Do you want to sharpen your programming skills, collaborate with designers, artists, and researchers, and build serious games with a social impact? Then you fit perfectly with GameLab Oost.

About GameLab Oost
GameLab Oost is a non-profit game design lab in the Eastern Netherlands. We connect education, research, and innovation with games, gamification, and simulation. Our goal is to create playful forms that accelerate learning, influence behavior, and add value in sectors such as education, healthcare, culture, and sustainability.

We collaborate with schools, companies, governments, and researchers. Every semester, we form new multidisciplinary teams (MBO, HBO, and WO levels) that develop prototypes and game concepts. You start with brainstorming and research, work in short sprints using SCRUM, and continuously test your work with real clients. Dozens of prototypes have now been developed, including for the Municipality of Hengelo, ZGT, the University of Twente, and various healthcare institutions.

What will you do?
As a Programmer, you build the systems that bring our serious games to life. You will work on:
• Gameplay mechanics, interactions, and technical systems.
• Implementation of features in Unity or Unreal Engine.
• Collaboration with designers, artists, and researchers in a SCRUM team.

Who are we looking for?

Collaboration with artists, designers, and programmers within a SCRUM team.
Ensuring an accessible and user-friendly playing experience.

As a Concept Artist, you will work parallel to all development phases of a game. You shape the visual direction by:
• Designing characters, environments, props, and moods.
• Creating pre-visualizations and art that inspire the rest of the team.
• Refining assets in collaboration with the other art departments.
• Supporting the transition from concept to 2D and 3D production.
• Collaborating with designers, programmers, and artists within a SCRUM team.

Who are we looking for?

• You are familiar with the digital art pipeline and enjoy working with Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign.
• You have basic knowledge of 3D software such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max.

  • Supporting campaigns, events, and promotions.

You will work closely with designers, content creators, and our communications team.

Event Manager Intern

What will you do?

As Event Manager, you ensure that our showcases, workshops and game events run smoothly and professionally. You are the organisational linchpin. Your responsibilities include:

● Planning and coordinating events and trade fairs.
● Drawing up scripts and logistical plans.
● Contact with partners, suppliers, and participants.
● Support during events: set-up, guidance and coordination on site.

Who are we looking for?

● You are studying event management, hospitality, communication or organisation.
● You are available from February 2026 to June 2026.
● You enjoy planning and organising and remain calm when things get busy.
● You work accurately, practically and think in terms of solutions.
● Experience with tools such as Trello or Notion is a plus.

Time allocation: 4–8 hours per week (flexible)

Who are we?

At Gamelab Oost it's all about serious gamesGames that are not only fun, but also meaningful. Think of games about sustainability, health or inclusion.
We collaborate with students, creative thinkers, and social organisations to develop game ideas that make the world a little better (and more fun).

What are you going to do?

As a Volunteer Project Supervisor you help our teams to ensure their projects run smoothly. You are the one who keeps track of everything, connects people and ensures that plans become reality.
You are a bit of an organiser, a bit of a coach, and above all: the glue that holds the team together.

Specifically, this means that:

  • Assisting team members in planning and tackling their tasks

  • Ensuring smooth communication between students, partners and clients

  • Contributing to team meetings

  • Contributing ideas on how projects can be smarter, more enjoyable or more efficient

  • Supporting the project manager with progress and organisation

     

What are we looking for in you?

  • You enjoy helping people work together.

  • You are interested in games, innovation or social issues.

  • You are good at planning and keeping track of things.

  • You communicate easily and enjoy a positive atmosphere.

  • Experience with project work, Scrum or Agile is a plus, but not required.

  • English is the working language at Gamelab Oost, so you need to feel comfortable with the English language.
